• All-Wheel Drive: Tires are moved in an X pattern on all-wheel drive vehicles — left rear to the right front, right rear to the left front, right front goes to the left rear, and left front goes to the right rear.

How to Rotate Tires at Home

The following steps detail how to do a tire rotation yourself.

1. Collect the necessary equipment, including a car jack and a lug nut wrench.
2. Engage your vehicle’s parking brake as a safety precaution.
3. Loosen the lug nuts on all four wheels, but don’t remove them yet.
4. Lift one wheel with a car jack, and place the jack stand below. 
5. Remove the tires one by one, repeating step 4 for each tire.
6. Check tire pressure on all tires.
7. Rotate your tires according to the appropriate pattern for your vehicle.
8. When you place the tire onto the wheel, screw the lug nuts by hand as far as you can.
9. Lower the car and use the lug nut wrench to finish tightening the nuts. Make sure to tighten them evenly.
